You can seel the white line after the laser light went passed. That's where the sensor got damaged.

I think i read somewhere in my manual that direct sunlight can kill a sensor too.

just don't point a sensor or eye of any kind directly at a laser. Noted!

Canon fixed the sensor for free under that dudes warranty, info found via youtube link
